The Argentavis is the kind of bird that appears in ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile. This creature is also referred to as the Argy or the Argent.
The dossier is planned to be a correct copy of what has been written by the survivor Helena – the author of the dossiers. There are probably several differences between this text and the in-game creatures.
Lording over the skies across the Island, Argentavis atrocollum has few aerial rivals. It is a small consolation for the Island’s other avian creatures, then, that Argentavis seems to have little interest in anything alive.
Quite apart from what I would have guessed, Argentavis does not have the stooped neck typical of modern buzzards and vultures.
I don’t know if it adapted this stronger neck to deal with the predators on the Island, or if its lineage derives from before the stooped neck became common in carrion-eating birds. Whichever it meant to be, it has enabled Argentavis to carry smaller creatures with its beak.
Argentavis is actually slower than the Island’s far more common Pteranodon, but it possesses significantly more stamina and can sustain flight for approximately three times as long. Its weighty stature, in comparison to the Pteranodon, allows it to utilize its talons to support the weight of an additional passenger. Considering its saddle doubles as a mobile crafting station, it makes Argentavis an excellent creature for traveling and hauling cargo over long distances.
The Argentavis is regarded as a very hostile predator that will assault anything approaching it. It’s kind of territorial and it’s always ready to hunt down the survivors long distances if they approach too close. The Argentavis is also known as scavengers when they always get attracted by dead bodies from an amazing distance away.
Argentavis is a keen-eyed and vulture-like bird of prey. On the island, this creature is the biggest one. Similar to other predatory birds, like the Terror Bird, it has to utilize its sharp beak and large feet for catching and sending off the prey.
Color Scheme and Regions
In this part, you will see the natural colors and regions of the Argentavis. You can see the red regions below on an albino Argentavis. The colored squares displayed below every single description of the region are known as the colors that this creature will spawn with at random so as to give a general range of its natural color scheme. You can move your cursor over a color to see the name and ID.
This region information can be used by the server admins in the Console Command “cheat SetTargetDinoColor ”.
For instance, “cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6” would be used to color the body magenta of Argentavis.

Guaranteed Special Loot
The Argentavis also drops minor items like a white beacon. The Argentavis Talon can be found in the inventory.
Base Stats and Growth
Note that creatures will have different stats in Survival of the Fittest
|Attribute||Amount at Level 1||Increase per point||Taming Bonus|
1- Percentages are built on the value of the stat when the creature was domesticated (after taming effectiveness).
2-The absolute Base Damage is displayed here rather than the percentage.
3-The movement speed of the wild creatures isn’t leveled up.
4-Torpidity grows every level on untamed creatures. However, it’s unable to be developed once they are domesticated.
- See the Base Creature Statistics below for a full comparison of the stats of all creatures.
- See the Creature Stats Calculation if you want to get an explanation of accurately how the level-up calculation operates.
|Movement Type||Base Speed||Sprinting|
- These are the base speeds of the creature at 100% Movement Speed
- For a comparison of the speeds of all creatures, see Base Creature Speeds
Wild Stats Level-up
If you want to check on which stats the creature is emphasized, you need to type in values of that wild creature. Normally, the green levels on a creature at a high level are kind of great for breeding. If you have already domesticated your creature, you should try to regain the breeding-stats with an external tool.
|Melee Damage [%]||0|
Bear in mind that after you have tamed the creature, it will receive some bonuses on some stats relying on the taming effectiveness. This will cause it to be difficult to recover the levels on a domesticated creature. Therefore, you only use this tool for the untamed ones. However, it brings you a first impression, how well the stats are given out.
The Argentavis is defeated and domesticated in a brutal way. The survivors need to knock it out and feed it with its favorite food.
You need to keep in mind that the Argentavis has a 3x headshot modifier. Because the torpor expands with damage dealt, you are totally able to decrease the number of munitions needed for knocking off one by neglecting all other body parts and opting instead to try for the headshots. You should know how bloody it is, or else you will probably slay it accidentally with the additional damage.
Although the Argentavis is slower than the Pteranodon, it will still dash away when its torpor gets high and doesn’t begin assaulting the player again, therefore, you need to get ready for a chase. It won’t be hard to keep them in the scope of a crossbow or a longneck rifle, but you will get attacked by it if you let it approach close enough. In addition, their natural spawning ranges are normally overwhelmed with hostile predators, therefore, you must watch out for your surroundings and always get ready in case the hunt becomes sour.
Shoot and Dodge
Shooting and dodging can be the best strategy you should follow. First of all, you must get your targeted Argentavis to fly at the ground level by using either crossbow or tranquilizer arrows or a longneck rifle and tranquilizer darts to assault it. When it comes in for the assault, you should aim and its head and shoot it then quickly elude its large talons. It will circle back around and do this process again. When the torpor of this creature develops too high, it will start flying away. You must quickly shoot it down before it flies away out of the range.
Another strategy you can follow is to exploit the natural aggression of the Argentavis. It will continue attacking once it gets provoked and will chase you a remarkable distance. You can set traps and taming pens to lure it into. If you are a low-level survivor, you can think about setting up a simple trap out of Wood or Stone materials to keep it unmoved and help it stay away from other dangerous predators that would slay it once being knocked unconscious. You need to remember that you are totally able to irritate an Argentavis and make it chase you down by approaching it close enough. By doing this, you will keep a picked target away from the flock without the intervention of other members.
At around coordinates 44,66 on the island, you can look for a natural pillar that doesn’t have any creatures. If you already domesticated a Pteranodon, you can use it to fly to the northwest towards Frozen Tooth where you will find Argentavis easily. Start attacking a solitary Argentavis, peck at it then get it to chase you. Keep a close distance to it, let it launch an assault every once in a while to keep it aggravated, then quickly tempt it to the pillar. You then dismount on the pillar and utilize tranquilizer arrows or darts to take it down. Make sure you bring more than two longneck rifles that are pre-loaded with darts. Once the creature grows enough torpor, it will try to get away from you, and with the reload time on the rifle, it may have enough time to fly too far away for it to fall on the secure pillar when it becomes unconscious.

Bear in mind that the values are just only for optimal cases, always carry the additional supplies.
You can try an external taming calculator [link] to get a level-dependent count of resources required.
In this section, you will learn how to fight against the Argentavis.
The Argentavis can be somewhat of a challenge to hit with any ranged weapons until the first shot has landed. Once it becomes aggressive, it will charge until severely injured or its torpor becomes too high.
The ways of slaying an Argentavis totally rely on if you are trying to catch it from the ground or from the air. You are highly recommended to use ranged weapons such as the longneck rifle, assault rifle, and even the sniper rifle if you intend on assaulting it from the ground. After being assaulted, it will become hostile and fly straight towards you, head first. This action, mixed with their head-shot modifier, makes them kind of easy to destroy or defeat supposing that you can get a clear shot. If you assault it from the air, probably utilizing your own domesticated Argentavis, you need to be watchful of drawing too big of a crowd. Argentavis is inclined to appear in big groups, and if you assault one of them, they will become aggressive. Watch out your back and don’t get trapped in a swarm.
Ranged weapons are so necessary. You should be watchful when you utilize a weapon armed with a scope because they can hinder your field of vision, which makes you defenseless to assault by other predators endemic to the native mountain ranges of the Argentavis.
If you use low-damage weapons, the Argentavis may be very dangerous to you. But, if you utilize an appropriate strategy, coping with this creature won’t be an issue to you. When in groups of two or more, the Argentavis can be extremely dangerous as you will find it very hard to fight against it. Make sure you won’t let them rile you up. Stay fully focused on striking them with melee weapons when you get swooped around by them. You should watch out for the other animals in the area as well, like Sabertooths and other fast carnivores.
The Argentavis absorbs 300% damage from headshots. Because a hostile Argentavis will always attack head first anyway, just ensure that you aim there for dishing out additional damage.
War Mount: The Argentavis is very necessary for warlike tribes thanks to its high damage output and wonderful maneuverability. (Level up melee damage, health and stamina)
Transport: It’s kind of wonderful for long distance transport (Level up weight and stamina)
Short Distance Transport: You can utilize this creature to convey heavy goods within a base since it has very high mobility and is able to get almost everywhere. Also, it possesses a good weight capacity.
Flying Mount/Scout: Although it is not as fast as Pteranodon, some land-based creatures are able to cover as much ground as the Argentavis can (Level up health and stamina).
Player Killer: The Argentavis is able to get players off of their mounts and off the ground. After being captured, you can drop them from great heights or send them off with their talons (Level up stamina and health).
Taming Mount: The Argentavis can pick up most animals and carry them to an arranged taming spot safely. (Level up weight and stamina)
Portable Hook-post: By utilizing the Grappling Hook, you can hook the Argentavis onto, which makes them very handy for lots of missions, like taming from midair. Just fly above the area that you want to domesticate a creature, dismount then hook onto the Argentavis. You should set it to follow you, as you falling down, it will make a move a little bit, however, when it gets hooked on, it will stop moving, or else, it will attempt to descend. (Level up stamina and health)
Egg Stealer: Wyverns or griffins are regarded as the perfect and secure options, however, Argentavis can be a nice selection for the beginners when they don’t have any high resources and advanced mounts yet.
Flying Smithy: If you attach a saddle to an Argentavis, you can use it as a Smithy (Added in TLC Patch #2)
The Argentavis decreases the weight of the following resources by the listed amount while they are in its inventory:
|Raw Prime Meat||★★★★☆|
When flying an Argentavis, you will utilize similar controls to movement on ground level with several exceptions. Quirks:
Will only take a step forward on command. If there is no forward command issued, the creature will finally stall to a half and hover in mid-air. Even while staying unmoved, Argentavis will lose a small amount of stamina just to stay aloft.
If you give Stimberry or Stimulant to an Argentavis in-flight, you will be enabled to fly for a longer time, but the stamina you gain is minor at best and very useless unless you utilize it in large enough quantities. A custom consumable recipe made from stimberries can be way more useful for this purpose.
If you press the jump-key (Space, Xbox: A, PS4: Cross), you can land easily, which makes the mount move to the ground and land, where your Argentavis folds its wings. To unmount, you press key E (for PC), Y (for Xbox) and Triangle (for PS4). If you want to start again, just press the jump-key (Space, Xbox: A, PS4: Cross).
Note: Domesticated and unmounted Argentavis don’t lose any stamina while they are flying. Make good use of this quirk to bring huge amounts of weight fast with an Argentavis set to follow.
An Argentavis can carry smaller creatures easily. You can help it do this by utilizing the alt-fire button (PC: Right mouse button, Xbox: LT, PS4: L2) while flying or hovering over the creature. It will swing the legs forward in an animation that is very the same as its attack. If the grab was done in a successful way, you can totally see the creature being pulled behind the Argentavis, together with its name and the level. To split a small, high-level animal, like a Raptor from its pack, you should use this way, which helps you domesticate it elsewhere. The Argentavis is able to assault the creatures that it is carrying by utilizing the default assault button or using the alt-fire again to drop them. The carried creature is unable to assault the Argentavis but is able to land an attack when it is picked up or released. If the creature that is being carried is held too close to the Argentavis, though, it is able to assault.
It’s easy for the Argentavis to carry a small creature in its beck (TLC 2)
An Argentavis is capable of carrying 4 creatures at any one time. One creature will be in the claws, one in the beck, a survivor sitting in the saddle carrying another creature.
At the moment, on official and most unofficial, PVE servers, untamed animals probably won’t be picked up to stop griefing.
The Argentavis is able to carry the following creatures in its claws:
- Giant Beaver
- Dung Beetle
- Terror Bird
- Thorny Dragon
- Titanomyrma Drone
In addition, the Argentavis can carry the following creatures in its beak:
- Titanomyrma Drone
If you want to know more about the real-world Argentavis, just check out the relevant Wikipedia article. Click [here] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentavis
- The Argentavis is able to fit in any size of Dinosaur Gate
- In gameplay, Argentabis is regarded as a more powerful but slower version of the Pteranodon.
- Although the Argentavis is listed as a Carrion Feeder, seemingly it doesn’t consume spoiled meat. But, it will grab any dead animals nearby.
- The species name “atrocollum” presumably translates into “Aerial Collector”.
- Although the saddle of the Argentavis works like a smithy, according to the game, it is unable to fix items.
In the patch 175.0, there are several changes made to Argentavis:
- Argentavis isn’t able to regain stamina mid-flight anymore. Formerly, players could easily halt flying forward and wait a bit until the stamina is fully refilled.
- Argentavis is able to pick up players and dinosaurs. The Pteranodon was the only flying creature having this capability before.
